Overview

Melobytes Air turns body movement into music in real time. The Windows desktop application sees up to two hands through your webcam and maps height, horizontal position, open palms, fists, pinches, air strikes and hand distance to melody, instrument color, chords, drums, filter and reverb.

You do not need to know music theory or MIDI. Select a mood, style, scale and complexity, then simply move. Auto Musical Mode quantizes the performance to an appropriate musical scale so experimental gestures still produce a coherent result.

Move your hands to control a complete gesture-driven instrument:

Tracks up to two hands locally with MediaPipe and 21 landmarks per hand. Maps hand height and horizontal movement to melody, pitch and instrument color. Detects pinch, open-palm, closed-fist and fast air-strike gestures. Uses the second hand for chords, drum energy and rhythmic accents. Keeps notes and chords inside Major, Minor, Pentatonic, Dorian, Lydian and Harmonic Minor scales. Includes Happy, Calm, Dark, Dreamy and Mysterious moods with multiple musical styles. Provides eight built-in procedural instruments, chords, drums, filter and reverb. Creates a new experimental gesture mapping whenever you select Surprise me. Outputs live MIDI notes and CC controls for volume, pan, filter and reverb. Records WAV, Standard MIDI and vertical 9:16 MP4 performance files. Writes performance files only while Record performance is active. Supports a configurable 1–30 minute licensed recording safety limit; the default is 5 minutes.

Camera processing stays on this computer. MediaPipe analyzes webcam frames locally; Melobytes Air does not upload camera images or hand landmarks.

Recording is opt-in. Working files are stored under %TEMP%\Melobytes Air only while recording, and Save files copies the WAV, MID and vertical MP4 performance to a folder you choose. Temporary sessions older than three days are cleaned automatically.
